Sunday Style | Neon for Spring

| OUTFIT DETAILS |

Croft & Barrow sweater | thrifted
Mossimo skirt | thrifted
Forever 21 faux leather jacket | thrifted
Diva Girl pumps (old)
Necklace & earrings (old)

Neon is something I've been seeing pop up recently. When I first saw it, my mind instantly went back to a few months ago when I thrifted this pretty skirt off the dollar rack. Back when I was still expecting our sweet Tyler and I was kind of like, hmm, do I like it? It is a pencil skirt and I love those. Hmm, should I get it? But, then it was only a buck so I figured, even if I decided that I didn't wear it, I wasn't losing much. I ended up buying it and, now that I'm able to wear it, I'm so glad I didn't pass it up. Who would've thought that neon would be coming into trend right now and this skirt would work perfectly.

I do love it. Though I've pulled it out of my armoire a few times thinking that I would wear it, I've had a little trouble styling it. For church last Sunday, I decided to pair it with this soft Croft & Barrow sweater I thrifted last year and some white pumps and I loved the result. Comfortable to get me through two services, cozy so all I needed was this light faux leather jacket and, though it got a little wrinkled, it held up pretty well. I added a little statement jewelry to polish off my look and I like how the necklace was bigger than the earrings. I tucked the front of my sweater into the top of my skirt slightly to give me a bit of a waistline, which is always helpful in making me look taller.

I'm not sure how often I'll be able to pull off the neon trend but, this was one time that I really felt great about it.

Craving Green

Seeing as how it's St. Patty's Day and it is after all, all about green, I thought I'd share some inspiration to implement green tones into your wardrobe this spring. I think the trick is finding the right shade for you and, personally, I love olive. It works with my skin tone and hair color and goes well with so many different hues.

For instance, an olive green shirt dress is a really great transitional piece. You can wear it with riding boots and a scarf or booties and a cardigan in the fall and early spring and then again with sandals, a floppy hat and a beach bag for summer. It's so versatile and, if you get the right fabric, can be one of your favorite closet staples. Surprisingly enough, this one is from Walmart and a really great option in my opinion, also it's very budget friendly.

This is another great option though the price is higher than the one above. But, I love that it doesn't have a tie belt and the color is a little richer. Also, this is one of those times that I'm really wondering why I cut my hair so short (sigh..), I go back and forth though. Ha.

Something that I love to wear during those months that you just need a light layer is the military or cargo jacket. I thrifted one that I love a couple of years ago and it has honestly been such a great addition to my closet. It's actually very similar to the one below. I've worn it with summer whites, winter blacks and even pops of color and it always looks great. Plus, it gives you a little more of a grunged look. Like you didn't spend a ton of time getting ready but you're outfit is still complete. These jackets will instantly do that for you.

Olive skinnies are on my want list for this spring/summer because they can go with so many things. I have a pair of dark, more hunter green skinnies and while they're great, they are more for fall and winter months. This lighter tone though can be worn with so much. Florals would look great along with navy tops and even coral. Seriously, so many options.

High Rise Skinniest Olive Jeans

I love the t-shirt dress, especially for those warm months where I want something I can just throw on and go while keeping cool and comfy. Chasing three boys under 7 around all day is no joke (especially with another tiny guy that can't move much on his own yet) and comfort is always key for me in outfit planning. This is a little different take on the typical t-shirt dress that you see but, I really really love it. The longer sleeves, the pretty color and the fringe all speak to me. I have some fabric in my sewing room just waiting to be made into something similar to this. Look for that soon ;)

Wild & Fringe Dress

I am also really loving florals this spring. They are so feminine and effortless and I am so eager to begin finding some at my local thrift shop. Both of these are peplum and that is so on trend right now. Again you have the flowy feminine detail and, with this style you can get longer or shorter length tops. Which is great for tall or petite girls. I'm not tall persay but I do like to be covered so I definitely go for the longer length in any top. These patterns are great but I also love a white or ivory top with light olive and pink toned flowers. So pretty.

Another way to wear florals this Spring is with skirts and dresses. Whether they're full or fitted, they look great and instantly elevate a simple dressy look. I love the big patterned florals I've been seeing lately and they work well in both styles.

How do you feel about wearing green tones? Have you tried it yet? If not, I urge you to give it a shot, you may find that it's just what you need to get you into the mood for Spring! Have a happy, happy rest of your week and enjoy your St. Patrick's Day!! I hope you don't get pinched too much! LOL

Transitioning with Florals

| OUTFIT DETAILS |

Loft floral top (thrifted)
ankle boots (thrifted)

When it comes to transitioning my closet to spring, I have a hard time jumping right into bright pastels. I'm a big lover of black, as I'm learning, and although it seems like it's easiest to wear it in fall and winter, if you work it right, you can pull it off in the warmer seasons just as well. I thrifted this top for a buck and it works really well to give me a little spring hint while not completely abandoning the routine I've gotten into with winter. What's not to love about black though, it's slimming, it goes with everything and it can dress any outfit up or down. To mix things up a bit, I added in these thrifted Soda ankle boots that are so comfortable I can literally wear them all day without getting sore feet. I love that they have a slight western feel and are a great neutral color. They really go with so much. I also love fringe booties and they would look amazing with floral tops this spring. Especially in nude or taupe.

I completely changed my look by just adding in a jacket, in another warm neutral. The weather was still quite chilly today so I really needed the extra layer and, although it didn't match the shade of my boots exactly, I loved how they went together. The minute I put this outfit on this morning I knew it was going to have to hit the blog. Isn't that funny? There's just something about it that you know you're going to love. I can't wait to style more floral patterns in the coming weeks as we get some nice spring weather. They are really so on trend and super easy to wear. How do you ease into your spring wardrobe?

Sunday Style : Ruffles & Pops of Color

| OUTFIT DETAILS |

Dress | made by me (Tutorial by Merrick's Art)
Fioni shoes | (mine are old but these & these are similar)
Papaya necklace | Premier Designs

One of my favorite ways to make an outfit really stand out is by adding some great jewelry. I tend to be drawn to more natural tones but I also love bright, bold colors. Two really spectacular jewelry companies I love are Noonday and Premier Designs. They are both Christian based and they make some seriously gorgeous pieces.

For this week's Sunday style, I decided to wear this dress that I made kind of last minute (as in yesterday) but really, really love. I used a tutorial from Merrick's Art and, like all of her tutorials, it was so so easy. You don't notice anything special about the top, it seems like just another t-shirt style shift dress. But, as your eyes go down they fall on the ruffle and it makes such a different impression. I instantly loved it the moment she posted it a few months ago but haven't had the time to make my own, until now. The hubby drove to Minnesota and back this past weekend to buy a truck so that meant it was just me and my four littles for two whole days (and nights). The days pass quickly enough, being so outnumbered makes it easy to stay entertained. But, the nights are a little tougher. So I took the opportunity of having a quiet house, seemingly endless alone time and no distractions to pull the trigger and I am so glad I finally did.

I know these photos are slightly blown out (wow was it bright this morning!) but, Glen always does such a great job so I think I can let it slide this one time. Ha. And, I'm one hundred percent sure I'll be wearing it again in the future so there'll be more pics to come. Anyway, if you need some inspiration for a pretty and modest Easter dress, head on over and view this tutorial and a few others Merrick has rounded up on her blog today. You're sure to find one you'll love!

Trying New Things

| OUTFIT DETAILS |

George top (thrifted)
Montego Bay Club wedges (thrifted)
G.H. Bass & Co bag (old)

One layering piece I've never tried before is the duster. I have a couple but, I could never find a good way to wear them. Why I never tried it beats me because I loved styling this one. It's a great neutral color so it works well with solid or patterned tops or dresses and it's not too thick so I can wear it all day without getting over heated. For some grocery shopping this past weekend, I paired it with a simple white slouchy top, tucked in just slightly at the waist, some skinnies rolled at the ankle and my favorite wedge. It worked great, was virtually effortless and kept my arms out of the crazy wind, as you can you tell from the photos!

A wedge is something else I haven't tried until now. Again, WHY? I LOVE these shoes!! They fit perfectly, give me a little more height without making me feel off balance and will add a little something to any spring or summer outfit. I can wear them all. the. time. and still look and feel great. I thrifted these and just recently thrifted another pair of colored wedges that I can't wait to wear very soon. They are also great for that transitional weather between seasons when it's not really warm enough for shorts but your feet start to sweat wearing boots.

I also love the pair linked below. The stripes add a little detail and would be perfect for a beach vaca! (ahem.. I do have one of those coming up..) Also, the backpack? I've mentioned it before but I love it. I have this one and a black one and sometimes feel like all I do is switch back and forth between them. They make it so easy to have all of my essentials and are still so easy to carry. If you haven't invested in one yet, do it. You won't regret it.

What trends are you on the fence about? I challenge you to try something new this week and see how you like it! You never know, it may be just the update your closet has needed!
